Rural Affairs Secretary congratulates Scotland’s Young Farmers on their anniversary
Scotland’s young farmers got a helping hand to celebrate their 75th anniversary at the Royal Highland Show – with a visit from Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead.
The Cabinet Secretary dropped into the celebratory reception with a cake to help the party go with a swing.
With over 80 clubs throughout Scotland, the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs has been a key part of rural life for generations of rural youngsters – many of whom have gone on to become farmers or take up other rural careers.
Mr Lochhead said:
“Activities organised by Scotland’s Young Farmers Club are a rite of passage for youngsters in rural areas – whether that’s stockjudging, sports competitions or social events.
“The Royal Highland Show is a major event in the SAYFC calendar and their stand is always a hive of activity.
“I’m delighted that I’m able to join the young farmers for their 75th anniversary celebrations this year and I’d like to wish them all the best for the next 75 years.”
