Finance Secretary comments on Grangemouth talks
Finance Secretary John Swinney and the Scottish Secretary Alastair Carmichael met with Unions and management at the Grangemouth plant earlier today (Thursday, October 24)
Speaking following these discussions, John Swinney said:
“It was important that the Scottish Secretary and I came here today to try to encourage a positive resolution around the future of the petrochemical plant here in Grangemouth.
“Clearly we’re in a very different set of circumstances from before, given the announcement that’s been made by Unite this morning to accept the company’s survival plan.
“I think that creates a much better basis for further progress towards resolving issues, and both the Scottish and the Westminster Governments stand ready to do whatever we can to help
“I am hopeful that parties can reach an agreement which will lead to the reopening of the petrochemicals plant and retaining this important contribution to the Scottish economy.”
