Thèid maoin £580,000 gu Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu agus Sgoil-àraich Rowena bho Riaghaltas na h-Alba, dh’fhoillsich am Ministear airson Cànain na h-Alba Alasdair Allan an-diugh.

Dhearbhadh gum bi £80,000 a’ dol gu Comhairle Baile Ghlaschu airson clasaichean a bha roimhe seo dùinte a leasachadh aig Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu. Bidh £500,000 a bharrachd ann airson Sgoil-àraich Rowena a ghluasad gu togalach ùr.

Thuirt am Ministear:

“Leis an £580,000 seo, togaidh Comhairle Baile Ghlaschu air an obair fìor mhath aca a thaobh clasaichean Gàidhlig aig Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu agus Sgoil-àraich Rowena.

“Air feadh Alba, tha sinn air a bhith soirbheachail a’ misneachadh dhaoine chun na Gàidhlig, gu h-àraidh a-measg òigridh. Tha seo air sgàth iarrtasan phàrantan agus cuideachd a bhith a’ tarraing deagh thidsearan gu foghlam tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

“Ma tha sinn a’ dol a chumail oirnn le ar taic do luchd-cleachdaidh ùr agus òg, tha feum air goireasan agus tàlant a chur far am bi cothroman ionnsachaidh. Tha mi cinnteach gun toir an leasachadh seo barrachd chothroman do chloinn òg agus teaghlaichean tòiseachadh, agus cumail orra, anns an sgoil le sgilean Gàidhlig.”

Thuirt an Comhairliche Stephen Curran, a tha na Àrd-Chomhairliche airson Foghlam agus òigridh: “Tha sinn air leth toilichte a bhith a’ faighinn a’ mhaoin a bharrachd a tha seo airson na sgoil-Ghàidhlig agus Sgoil-Àraich Rowena.

“Tha an Sgoil Ghàidhlig a’ sìor fhàs gach earrann dhen bhliadhna, a’ toirt cothrom do bharrachd is barrachd dhaoine òga fad na h-ùine a bhith a’ togail air obair-sgoile tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

Tha Comhairle Bhaile Ghlaschu a’ dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil foghlam tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig aig fìor àrd-ìre ga thairgse agus gan cumail fhèin air thoiseach ann a bhith innleachdach agus adhartach anns na cleachdaidhean is dòighean-obrach aca, ach an cùm sinn taic ris an ath-bheòthachadh a tha a’ tighinn air a’ Ghàidhlig feadh a’ bhaile, mar phàirt dhen Phlana Gàidhlig.”

Glasgow Gaelic expansion
Classrooms and nursery to benefit from £580,000 investment in city.

Sgoil Ghaidlig Ghlaschu and Rowena Nursery will share Scottish Government funding of £580,000, Minister for Scotland’s Languages Alasdair Allan said today.

£80,000 investment will be used by Glasgow City Council to complete the upgrade of mothballed classrooms at Sgoil Ghaidlig Ghlaschu. A further £500,000 would allow Rowena Nursery to move to a new building.

He said:

“This £580,000 investment will allow Glasgow City Council to build on its good record of making Gaelic an enjoyable part of classes at Sgoil Ghaidlig Ghlaschu and Rowena Nursery.

“Across Scotland, the greatest success we are having in encouraging more Gaelic speakers is amongst young people. It is the result of meeting the demand from parents and attracting good teachers to Gaelic medium education to bring lessons to life.

“If we are to be able to continue to support a growth in new, younger speakers we need to have the combination of talent and resources for them to learn in. I am sure that this expansion will mean that more opportunities for young children and families to start them on a school journey that continues to include Gaelic skills.”

Councillor Stephen Curran, Executive Member for Education and young people, said: "We are delighted to receive the additional funding for the Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu and Rowena Nursery.

"The Glasgow Gaelic School continues to grow each session, enabling more and more young people in the city to access the curriculum through the medium of Gaelic.

"Glasgow City Council is committed to providing Gaelic-medium education of the highest quality and continues to lead the sector in devising new and innovative practice which is supporting the renewal of the Gaelic language across the city in line with the authority’s Gaelic Plan for Glasgow."
