Health and social care staff satisfaction remains high

Report evaluates staff experience.

A new report finds 79% of health and social care staff feel they are treated with dignity and respect, and 80% that their manager cares about their health and wellbeing.

The Health and Social Care Staff Experience Report, published today, provides a comprehensive picture of staff experience across NHS Scotland and Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs).

The report shows a large percentage of staff feel a sense achievement in their work (73%) and that 67% of health and social care staff across Scotland feel that they are supported to do their job.

Teams are encouraged to address areas where improvement is required.

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman said:

“I want to thank all health and social care staff for their continued hard work and dedication throughout the year but especially in winter. I’m pleased to see that staff satisfaction remains high and we want to ensure that this continues to grow.

“We know that improved staff experience leads to better care and that is why we have invested in this staff experience continuous improvement model. I strongly encourage everyone to have their say by completing the iMatter questionnaire and to actively participate in the development of your team Action Plans for the forthcoming year.

“We were also the first government in the UK to lift the pay cap and deliver a pay rise of at least 9% to our hardworking NHS staff.

“I expect all boards and partnerships to consider this report carefully and use it to celebrate areas of success and, more importantly, improve staff experience wherever possible.”

Background

The Health and Social Care Staff Experience Report

The iMatter questionnaire was available for staff to complete online between 5 February 2018 and 17 September 18. Paper responses were accepted until 24 September to allow for post process. Questionnaire distribution was scheduled by cohorts in each Board within this time period. iMatter results are directly reported at team, directorate and organisation levels and once team results are delivered two weeks after questionnaires closing, teams are invited to collectively share responsibility for developing an action plan within a 12 week period and to review actions and progress made throughout the year.
