Rural support update
SSI on Common Agricultural Policy payments laid before Parliament.
Details of minimum activity rules which have been designed to prevent slipper farmers, who have land where no farming activity takes place, from claiming payment support under the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) have been laid before Parliament by Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead.
The SSI reflects the main implementing decisions made by the Scottish Government over and above what is already provided for in the EU rules themselves. Full details on the SSI can be found here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2015/58/contents/made
The minimum activity rules apply to land which is naturally kept in a state suitable for agriculture – defined under the new CAP as Region 2 and 3 land.
Full guidance for farmers will be published next week.
