Swinney meets with unions over Railcare

Finance Secretary John Swinney met with trade unions Unite and RMT this afternoon to discuss what further action the Scottish Government can take to support workers and save jobs at Springburn-based rail engineering firm Railcare.

It was announced last week that Railcare has entered administration.

Mr Swinney said: “I had a very constructive meeting with Railcare unions this afternoon and I share the concerns they have over the business. Railcare are an important and valued employer with a skilled workforce.

“The government's enterprise agency Scottish Enterprise, on behalf of Ministers, has already been in contact with company administrators BDO and is considering all possible options to save jobs. We have also offered support through our Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE), whose representatives have already visited the site to give advice to employees facing redundancy.

“The Scottish Government remains committed to doing everything in our power to safeguard as many jobs as possible and I gave union representatives my assurance that I would take any steps possible to secure the future of the company.”
