Tourism industry body launched

Aim to grow bed and breakfast sector.

The first trade body representing thousands of bed and breakfast and guest house owners across Scotland has been launched.

The Scottish Bed & Breakfast Association (SBBA) was unveiled to 1,000 delegates attending the Guest Scotland conference for tourism accommodation and retail businesses.

Launching the SBBA at the conference in Edinburgh, Tourism Secretary Fiona Hyslop said:

“The small accommodation sector is a vital part of our tourism and hospitality industry. In 2014, over 4 million domestic and international visitors spent a bed night in B&Bs, right across Scotland.

“The new Scottish Bed and Breakfast Association will play a crucial role in helping sector grow and to maintain its reputation as a key economic contributor to Scotland’s tourism industry.”

David Weston, Chairman of the Scottish Bed & Breakfast Association, said:

“Scotland’s B&Bs are world-class, and now have their own trade association, the SBBA – which will inform, support and represent Scottish B&Bs and guest houses, while also remaining fully affiliated with the UK B&B Association.

“We will be working with the Scottish Government, the Scottish Tourism Alliance and others to champion Scottish B&Bs and fight their corner”
