Media Briefing - Tuesday 19 May 2015
Post-Cabinet Media Briefing by the Scottish Government Spokesman (SGS) and the First Minister’s Special Adviser (FMSA): Tuesday, May 19 2015
The SGS and FMSA welcomed journalists to the briefing before the FMSA provided an update following the meeting of the Scottish Government Cabinet.
The FMSA informed journalists that there was a Cabinet discussion led by DFM on the issue of more powers for Scottish Parliament following the Devolution (Further Powers) Committee report last week. The view that the draft clauses published by the UK Government before the election simply fail to reflect the Smith Commission recommendations and that the UK Government should view the Devolution Committee very seriously and amend the Scotland Bill before it is introduced.
The FMSA advised that Education Secretary Angela Constance would deliver an address this evening at the University of Glasgow's Robert Owen Centre for Educational Change, with a focus on attainment and the challenges that are still to be addressed. The SGS advised that her speaking note would be issued in advance.
The SGS went on to advise that, earlier in the day, Ms Constance met pupils from Leith Academy who are preparing for commemorations to mark the centenary of the Quintinshill WW1 rail disaster. The pupils have been painting poppies along the route that will be taken for Saturday's event.
