Post Cabinet Media Briefing by the First Minister’s Official Spokesperson (FMOS) and the First Minister’s Special Adviser (FMSA)
The FMOS welcomed journalists to the briefing and gave an update following that morning’s meeting of the Scottish Cabinet:
• The Lord Advocate updated the Cabinet on the circumstances surrounding the investigation into the death of Mikaeel Kular. FMOS advised that no further information could be given as this is a ‘live’ case.
• Finance Secretary John Swinney gave Cabinet colleagues an update on current economic conditions and there was discussion concerning tomorrow’s budget bill. The FMOS highlighted Mr Swinney’s visit of earlier today which focused on investment in infrastructure.
Asked if anything would be issued in advance of the budget the FMOS advised journalist that it was likely they would receive more information as appropriate.
Asked if childcare would be mentioned in the budget priorities the FMSA said there would reference to childcare.
The FMSA added that information has been released today on the bedroom tax giving a breakdown of the payments to local authorities with comment from the Deputy First Minister on the £20 million funding provided by the Scottish Government to the Discretionary Housing Payments fund in 2013/14 to help those struggling with the bedroom tax.
The FMSA also informed journalists that comment would be issuing from the Deputy First Minister welcoming the findings of the 2013 Scottish Social Attitudes Survey.
