Post Cabinet Briefing by the First Minister’s Official Spokesperson (FMOS) and the First Minister’s Special Advisor (FMSA)
The FMOS advised journalists Cabinet had formally recorded its condolences to the families bereaved by the tragic events at the Clutha Vaults in Glasgow on Friday night. Cabinet also expressed their best wishes to those who remain in hospital, and their thanks to those involved from all the emergency services. The FMOS advised the First Minister is due to make a statement to Parliament at 2pm this afternoon.
Also, Minister for Children and Young People Aileen Campbell updated Cabinet on the PISA educations statistics issued today which show the attainment gap in maths, reading and science between the most advantaged and most disadvantaged school pupils has narrowed for the first time. Scotland is the only part of the UK to see this improvement. This is the last group of Scottish pupils to be surveyed before Curriculum for Excellence is fully implemented. In reading and science, Scottish pupils were above the average of participating countries and performing at least as well as other UK countries.
