Post Cabinet Media Briefing by the First Minister’s Official Spokesperson (FMOS) and the First Minister’s Special Adviser (FMSA): February 4, 2014
The FMOS welcomed the media to the briefing and gave an update following this morning’s meeting of the Scottish Cabinet. The FMOS said the Health Secretary Alex Neill updated his Cabinet colleagues on the Same Sex Marriage Bill that will go through its final reading later today. She said Mr Neil had reminded colleagues that the next stage will be for the UK government to make the relevant amendments to the UK Equality Act, but that it is hoped Scotland will have its first same sex marriage before the end of this year.
The FMOS also advised the Finance Secretary John Swinney lead a Cabinet discussion on Stage 3 of the Budget Bill scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday). The FMSA highlighted that Mr Swinney will be writing to his opposition party finance counterparts on the Budget Bill today.
Asked for further detail on discussions on the ‘Bedroom Tax’ and negotiations around the budget, the FMOS advised journalists would receive more detail when appropriate
