The First Minister’s Official Spokesperson (FMOS) welcomed journalists to the briefing and ran through the day's key events.

FMOS confirmed Finance Secretary John Swinney will make a statement to Parliament this afternoon with an update on the super puma tragedy detailing the Governments involvement so far and what we expect to happen going forward.

When asked if Mr Swinney would go into any detail concerning yesterday’s Treasury paper, FMOS said his statement today was about the helicopter tragedy and circumstances pertaining to that.

FMOS also highlighted that the Energy Minister Fergus Ewing will make a speech at Offshore Europe today outlining the potential for the oil and gas industry. FMOS highlighted that Scottish Enterprise reports show offshore growth is expected to increase by 73% in the next five years, with enormous potential for the future of Scotland’s oil and gas industry.

Finally FMOS advised that the Deputy First Minister will meet with Commissioner Hahn to discuss European structural funds.

Asked for a response from the Scottish Government relating to Labour’s proposal on bedroom tax and the introduction of a member’s bill, FMOS advised the Scottish Government would provide a response.
