Appointment of Chair of the Board of Scottish Enterprise

Bob Keiller to join Scottish Enterprise team.

The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Constitution and Economy, John Swinney, today announced the appointment of Bob Keiller to succeed Crawford Gillies as the new Chair of the Board of Scottish Enterprise from January 1, 2016.

Mr Swinney, welcoming the appointment, said:

“I am delighted that Bob will be joining the Board of Scottish Enterprise, and I know that Scottish Enterprise will benefit from his extensive experience. I wish him well and look forward to working with him.”

Bob Keiller said:

“I am looking forward to working with the team at Scottish Enterprise to build on the good work they have been doing and help them to improve even more. Scotland needs a vibrant and inclusive economy and Scottish Enterprise has a catalytic part to play in achieving this."

Bob Keiller is the Wood Group Chief Executive Officer having held the position since November 2012. He will step down from this position on 31st December 2015. He was formerly Chief Executive of Wood Group PSN from April 2011 and CEO of Production Services Network prior to its acquisition by Wood Group. He was previously chairman of the Offshore Contractors Association, the Helicopter Issues Task Group, the Entrepreneurial Exchange and co-Chair of Oil and Gas UK.

Appointment

The appointment will be for three years, commencing on January 1, 2016 and ending on December 31, 2018.

The appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £514 per day for a time commitment of 1½ days per week.

This appointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

Mr Keiller does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.

Political Activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mr Keiller has not undertaken any political activity in the last five years.

Scottish Enterprise

Scottish Enterprise (SE) has statutory powers to promote and assist economic development, enterprise and international competitiveness and to advise Scottish Ministers on all related matters. SE’s ambition is to help make Scotland more globally competitive and its business plan for 2014-2017 sets out its aims to achieve that ambition and how SE is responding to the current economic challenges.

SE has its headquarters in Glasgow and is responsible in 2015-16 for a budget of £321.3 million.
