Independence gains for rural Scotland
Lochhead outlines vision of what Scottish independence could mean for rural Scotland.
The benefits of independence for rural Scotland will be outlined by Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead at this year’s Royal Highland Show.
Mr Lochhead will make a speech and take questions at an event to be held in the Scottish Government pavilion on the second day of the show.
Mr Lochhead said:
“As Rural Affairs Secretary I have worked hard to use the powers of devolution to drive forward our ambitions for rural Scotland, for its communities and its industries.
“But we will be able to do much more with the powers which independence brings.
“I firmly believe that Scotland’s true potential has yet to be realised and that’s particularly true in rural Scotland where we have fantastic assets and yet, too often, find ourselves unable to harness their full potential because of the limitations of devolution.
“The Royal Highland Show is a major highlight of the rural calendar and I believe it’s a fitting venue for us to outline our vision for what independence could mean for rural Scotland.”
Invitations have been issued this week for the seminar but a limited number of places for members of the public are also available at the event. Anyone interested in attending should email email@example.com. If numbers are oversubscribed, places will be allocated by ballot.
The event will take place in the Scottish Government pavilion, Avenue J, Stand 182, at 1030 on Friday June 21.
