Reports of chemical weapons attack in Syria
External Affairs Secretary says UN must be allowed to investigate.
Commenting on reports of a chemical weapons attack in Syria, External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop said:
“I am deeply shocked by reports that chemical weapons have been used in attacks on rebel held areas in Damascus. If these claims are verified, this would represent a truly horrific escalation of the conflict in Syria.
“The Syrian government must allow UN investigators access to the affected area to investigate this dreadful attack. I know that the UK plan to raise the issue at the UN Security Council and we urge the UN to redouble its efforts to find a peaceful situation to the conflict and to bring the perpetrators to account.”
